Top 20 Famous Rebels in History

Posted by kristobaldude on April 8, 2014

Greetings Folks,
Here is a list of historical figures whom I consider rebels, revolutionaries and heroes for freedom. Some of you at first glance may be tempted to disagree based on the reports that you may have heard about these characters. I would ask you to hold your judgement until you do some research. A good place to start is by googling the person’s name plus the word “hero”. This post was inspired by two figures who were vilified by a greater power that wanted to impose its might and power upon the perceived weaker. Vercingetorix, number 1 on the list, was a Gallic (Gaelic, Celtic) chieftain in France when Julius Caesar–to bolster his military strength and reputation–sought to subjugate the Gallic and Celtic “barbarian” (read: non-Roman) tribes. Caesar treated him as a villain and then starved his whole village into eventual surrender.
The second character that inspired this post is Ho Chi Minh, or “Uncle Ho” as he was known to the common folk of Vietnam. Before what Americans would eventually call the “Vietnam War”, Ho, a college-educated Vietnamese man, who studied in Europe and was by all means a self-made man, petitioned then U.S. President Harry Truman for help in defending against the colonial oppression of the French & Dutch. Ho admired the rebels of the American Revolution and felt that America would surely support Vietnam in its fight for independence. That did not happen. So without the support of the USA, and in fact with America supporting their oppressors, the French, Ho almost single-handedly started a resistance–like a freekin’ ninja! Thus was born, through I believe America’s corruption and rejection of the appeals of an oppressed people for help, one of the greatest enemies of American and the world the 20th century has known. I dare you to research these figures and change your minds about who you think they are.

The True Origins of Valentine’s Day

Every year we celebrate a very ancient pastoral festival to keep away evil spirits and increase fertility, some refer to this as “Valentine’s Day.” The roots of this holiday aren’t in a Hallmark marketing meeting as some have stated. The origins of this red-stained holiday rest with ancient shepherds, in their pre-Roman fields.

define your words (day 87 of 100)

Posted by kristobaldude on February 4, 2014

and zee topic is...

How do we decide what a word means?

If every person creates different definitions based on their individual experiences and what they allow others to tell / show them is truth – how do I know if a word has the same meaning between me and you?

You think of a word, let’s call this word love and perhaps many images pop in your head of what love is or what love isn’t.

My pictures may be different from yours (more likely) or may be similar but how would we ever know what we think love is unless we discovered and discussed each other’s images. And if we did get involved in that conversation – would we be able to accurately describe the images we see in our minds? Sometimes images can be entire worlds making it a difficult task to paint the picture using words.

Do you decide to believe a…
