Top 20 Famous Rebels in History

Posted by kristobaldude on April 8, 2014

Greetings Folks,
Here is a list of historical figures whom I consider rebels, revolutionaries and heroes for freedom. Some of you at first glance may be tempted to disagree based on the reports that you may have heard about these characters. I would ask you to hold your judgement until you do some research. A good place to start is by googling the person’s name plus the word “hero”. This post was inspired by two figures who were vilified by a greater power that wanted to impose its might and power upon the perceived weaker. Vercingetorix, number 1 on the list, was a Gallic (Gaelic, Celtic) chieftain in France when Julius Caesar–to bolster his military strength and reputation–sought to subjugate the Gallic and Celtic “barbarian” (read: non-Roman) tribes. Caesar treated him as a villain and then starved his whole village into eventual surrender.
The second character that inspired this post is Ho Chi Minh, or “Uncle Ho” as he was known to the common folk of Vietnam. Before what Americans would eventually call the “Vietnam War”, Ho, a college-educated Vietnamese man, who studied in Europe and was by all means a self-made man, petitioned then U.S. President Harry Truman for help in defending against the colonial oppression of the French & Dutch. Ho admired the rebels of the American Revolution and felt that America would surely support Vietnam in its fight for independence. That did not happen. So without the support of the USA, and in fact with America supporting their oppressors, the French, Ho almost single-handedly started a resistance–like a freekin’ ninja! Thus was born, through I believe America’s corruption and rejection of the appeals of an oppressed people for help, one of the greatest enemies of American and the world the 20th century has known. I dare you to research these figures and change your minds about who you think they are.

Kristobaldude Designs: Logo – Hodgepodge

Posted by kristobaldude on April 6, 2014

I just spent about an hour composing an icon from images I’ve gathered from the web. The icon is entitled “Hodgepodge”. I composed it using Pixlr, a great free online Photoshop alternative. This will be used for when I am posting multiple links that cover a variety of potentially unrelated topics. Pretty proud of my work on this one, part of my project to reorganize the taxonomy of my WordPress blog.

Kristobaldude’s List of Unexpected Metal Covers

Posted by kristobaldude on April 1, 2014

Hi Folks,

This here is going to be a compilation of songs that I think could be covered on an album (Metallica-style), that are either not widely known and haven’t been beaten to death (overplayed). Since I play metal guitar these are songs I would like to learn to perform live in a metal style. Note, some of them probably will be over-covered songs because they are just so great, like Eleanor Rigby and Journey’s Separate Ways.

Also, this won’t be the only post. This will be the first one, comments are welcomed as well as suggestions. Any other songs I think of after this post will be linked by the tag #unexpected-metal. Well then, without further ado, here is the list so far:

Beatles – Beatles – Eleanor Rigby
Beatles – Helter Skelter
Beatles – I Want You
Journey – Separate Ways
Ray Davies – I’m Not Like Everybody Else [Chocolate Watch Band]
Judas Priest – Green Manalishi
Chris Deburgh – Don’t Pay The Ferryman
Yardbirds – Psychotic Reaction
Dead Kennedys – Too Drunk To Fuck
Uriah Heep – Easy Living
Wham – Careless Whisper
Yardbirds – Heart Full Of Soul
Harry Nilsson – One (Is The Loneliest Number) [3 Dog Night]
Deep Purple – Storm Bringer
Deep Purple – Sweet Child In Time
Kiss – Love Gun
Procol Harum – A Whiter Shade of Pale
Heart – Barracuda
Scorpions – Don’t Stop At The Top [Children Of Bodom]
Partridge Family – I Woke Up In Love This Morning
Osmonds – Crazy Horses [Blockbusters]
Monkees – Steppin’ Stone
Monkees – Pleasant Valley Sunday
Monkees – She
(Note: There are probably a bunch more Monkees songs that could be metal sleepers!)
UFO – Rock Bottom
