Workshop Schedule

Cobworks offers a number of workshops throughout the year in various locations. We’re always adding new workshops and events, so be sure to check back often.

Cobworks and O.U.R. Ecovillage Summer Internship Extravaganza!

July 23rd to August 18th, 2012

Every once in awhile, planets align and a magical combination of the right people and the right place come together for an extra special cob workshop offering.

This summer, give yourself a month of amazing creativity, cob construction, general building skills development, and community connections….all on one of the most built out natural building/permaculture demonstration sites in North America. In this course you have the opportunity to bring together the teachings of one of the founders of natural building revitalization in Canada, Pat Hennebery of Cobworks, with a whole village culture of collective action at OUR ECOVILLAGE in Shawnigan Lake, B.C.

Check out the photos of past Cobworks projects and apprenticeships on this website and then head on over to O.U.R. Ecovillage to read a full description of what’s in store for this AMAZING course and to register. (It’s gonna be a good one!…)

Cob Workshop – Summer 2012

Come and build a cob workshop with us! Tracy Calvert of Cobworks is offering an opportunity for learning about building with cob while constructing a woodworking shop on Pender Island. Built onto a stone foundation, we will move through the process of mixing cob and building load-bearing walls. Besides covering the basics of cobbing, we will include the finer details of working around door and window frames, constructing arches and niches, using wood lintels and exploring creative bottle and glass placement designs. Discussions will provide opportunities for questions and further site specification points, as well as other aspects of natural building. The building site is the property of Colin Hamilton and Wendi Lopetecki whom have just completed a straw bale house with a living roof.

Accommodations will be camping in the meadow beside the swimming pond, with an outdoor shower and composting toilet.

Vegetarian meals will be provided, please inform us of any special food needs ahead of time. Two positions are available for intensives covering both workshops and extra time between and/or after, as self-directed opportunities to learn more. Cabin facilities are possible for any needs of circumstance. It is our hope that cob and natural building construction can be widely available methods of building for a diverse, creative, and compassionate community.
